TMJ Pain

If you suffer from pain in your neck, head or jaw then it is very possible that you suffer from TMJ pain. This is where the joint where your jaw meets your skull, known as the temporomandibular joint, has unnatural stresses put on it through a misaligned bite or some improper use of your mouth, such as grinding your teeth. Both of these circumstances are incredibly common and so TMJ pain is a lot more prevalent among the world population than you might otherwise think.

A very large proportion of women in their 30s and 40s grind their teeth during their sleep as a response to stress in their waking lives. This means they are forcing their jaw to work through immense pressures for hours every night without even realising it. This can tire out and strain the muscles and ligaments around the joint, causing TMJ pain . The best way of dealing with this is to reduce your stress levels in your waking life, which is easier said than done admittedly. However by taking up some form of regular exercise or sport, or indulging yourself a little more time for pampering and things you enjoy, you can help dissipate some of this stress before allowing your subconscious to run wild with it at bed time.

Correcting a misaligned bite is more tricky, as some bites can appear perfectly fine even when they're not, meaning it is sometimes hard to identify exactly what is causing the TMJ pain.
